Louisiana Attorney Summarizes Families First Coronavirus Response Act

Louisiana attorney Michele M. Echols has authored an up-to-date Litchfield Alert, “Families First Coronavirus Response Act,” that identifies the new refundable payroll tax credits for small and midsize businesses. In her summary, Michele discusses the relief employees and businesses (defined as fewer than 500 employees) are provided under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), signed by President Donald J. Trump on March 18, 2020.

Michele summarizes paid leave for workers, paid sick leave employer credit, child care leave, payments for the leave, exemptions, non-enforcement period and examples, and the impact this Act will have on the workforce due to COVID-19. Michele’s Litchfield Alert will provide basic information for those contemplating next steps and the handling of their workforce decisions.

Michele’s article does not address the recently enacted Employment Laws During COVID-19 nor the FMLA and Sick Leave Expansion Bill Following COVID-19. She will soon draft Litchfield Alerts on the topics of 26 U.S. Code § 139 allowing employers to make tax-free disaster relief payments to employees to cover COVID-19 expenses, and another that explains aspects related to the $2 trillion coronavirus relief bill signed on March 27, 2020.
